Compassionate, Integrative Mental Health Care for First Responders and Military Service Members/Veterans

Welcome!

“Your life is a sacred journey and it’s about change, growth, discovery, movement, transformations, continuously expanding your vision of what is possible, stretching your soul, learning to see clearly & deeply, listening to your intuition, taking courageous risks, and embracing challenges at every step along the way. You are on the path exactly where you are meant to be right now…and from here, you can only go forward, shaping your life story into a magnificent tale of triumph, of healing, of courage, beauty, wisdom, power, dignity, & love.”

Important Office Notes:

My office has DOGS that are in the office with me. If you have severe allergies or are not a “dog person”, then my office may not be the right fit for you.

Meet “Dude”! He is a 12 year old Patterdale Terrier/Chihuahua mix who I adopted from Burlington Animal Services in 2015. I am not sure of his past, but I’m sure there was abuse of some kind as he is still somewhat shy and timid. He is NOT a therapy dog, but I am hoping one day he will recover enough to really interact more with people. For now, he’s learning to trust again and will let you pet him once he feels safe with you.

And here’s “Lexi” my newest addition. Adopted from Carolina Boxer Rescue in May of 2022, this 5 year old Rhodesian Boxer is full of life and energy! Thanks to Sally Said So training, she is currently working on her Canine Good Citizen certification and then on towards her official therapy-dog certification. She’s recently been accepted as Burlington Police Department’s official Therapy Dog! You can find us there every few weeks making sure that officers, telecommunicators, and admin/staff are getting plenty of puppy love. She is visiting other agencies too (Graham PD, Alamance Co EMS, Elon Fire Department, Burlington Fire Department) as we want her designation to be “FIRST RESPONDER THERAPY DOG”. Let us know if you want us to schedule a visit to your agency!

MORE Announcements

Here’s where I update my office news! This is current as of January 27, 2026

  • Hey guys, my caseload is pretty full! I do save a few spots for traumatic incidents/first responder involved incidents, so if you need something don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • My former intern Julie Mattice will have some spaces available when her associate license comes through in the beginning of 2026 (we hope sooner than later) As a military wife and daughter of a first responder, she fits in well with my practice and we’re excited to have her continue to use my office space 2x a month. Julie is trained in CPT and will be getting her EMDR training soon. Her primary office will be in Yanceyville. When her Psychology Today profile is updated, I’ll post it here.

  • AND, my partners-in-crime, Samantha Mitchell and Katherine Bannon also have space for first responders. I’m so excited that they are in the office with me! “Sam” is also a Certified First Responder Counselor, and the wife of a first responder. She was previously the embedded crisis clinician at Burlington Police Department, has taught CIT classes, and is also EMDR trained. You can visit Sam’s profile at: https://www.psychologytoday.com/profile/1481697

While “Kat” isn’t a certified first responder counselor (yet), she has plenty of experience working with the culture, and she also did her internship at the VA so she is military-culture trained as well. She does Brainspotting clinician and is trained in trauma. You can check her out at https://www.reflectionspsychotherapyandcounseling.com/ and https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/katherine-k-bannon-burlington-nc/1339500.

While I will only be taking on First Responders/Law Enforcement and Military Service Members as “regular” clients from here on out, I will continue to accept EAP referrals from MyGroup and Backline Cares, Inc.

STUDENTS SEEKING PRACTICUM/INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT: I am currently NOT taking on any interns or practicum students. My clinical hours will be decreasing as I spend more time teaching YFFR, BLET, and visiting agencies.

***I do not do custody evaluations or any other assessments ordered by a court of law***
